Eating Out (nearby..)

As a fishing port served by day boats, Looe is graced with a fine supply of excellent fresh seafood – with fish and chip shops, traditional pasty / oggie (y) outlets and a variety of restaurants including Thai, Indian and Italian cuisine.

The Catch

Looe’s newest Fish and Chip takeaway owned and operated by celebrity chefs The Tanner Brothers. Really light, crisp battered fish and proper chips with home made tartare sauce.

Trawlers on the Quay

Positioned on the East Looe quay with a seafood speciality menu and a terrace bar in full sun, what better place to watch the world go by while tucking in to freshly caught locally sourced fish, crab and shellfish.

The Sea Kitchen, Hannafore

A family owned and operated Bar Bistro, serving seafood, salads, steaks and scrumptious desserts, light bright and airy with wide seascapes across Looe Bay to Rame Head, from it’s Hannafore location.

The Smugglers Cott

The old Merchant’s House is set in the heart of East Looe specialising in local seafood and prime chargrilled steaks along with it’s popular Sunday lunch rib roast carvery.

The Old Sail Loft Restaurant

A well known and well loved restaurant in East Looe, ideal for special occasions.

Squid Ink

Open seasonally, this restaurant is within short walking distance from the Sail Loft property in East Looe, proudly promoting fresh local ingredients, showcasing local wines and ciders, and devoting extra attention to those with precise dietary requirements.

The Smugglers Rest, Talland Bay

Seasonally open, licensed and serving an evening Barbecue and extensive lunchtime menu on the walk to Polperro and with a carpark if you travel by car, enjoy great service and the unique flavour of open air cooking with views across Talland Bay.

The Plough at Duloe

A traditional Cornish Inn serving exceptional restaurant quality food – using fresh seasonal and where possible locally sourced produce. In the nearby village of Duloe, only 10 mins drive from the Sail Loft Studio.

The Rod & Line, Tideford

You get a friendly welcome from the locals at this small tucked away pub with oodels of character, roaring open fire, good ale, great food and live music!

The View, Whitsand Bay

Perched high above the sandy beaches of Whitsand Bay, The View, owned and operated by Matt Corner serves up a local bounty of meat, game and seafood with a panoramic spectacular English Channel vista from this fabulous restaurant.

The Springer Spaniel, Treburley

Rustic fine dining and a great bar menu, this pub delivers on all fronts. It’s (Masterchef winner) owner Anton Piotrowski has encorporated the winning elements from the Michelin starred Treby Arms in Plympton and has successfully applied them to this restaurant. Both worth a visit if you have time (about 40mins drive).

Cornish Cheese Company

This award winning, delicous farmhouse blue cheese is produced very locally in Upton Cross, near Liskeard. Internationally recognised and extending its range to include additions such as pear and walnut, a presentation box of this cheese would make an ideal gift or purchase a taste for yourself at the local delicatessen just minutes from the Sail Loft Studio.

Cornish Gouda

An artisan cheese produced by a young Dutch entrepreneur, Gouda cheese is now available on our doorstep, using the milk produced from their own herd in Lanreath. Now available seasoned with herbs, try Fenugreek or Honey & Clover.

Tregothnan Tea

The Truro based tea company Tregothnan sits in a micro-climate, perfect conditions for growing their particular variety of tea Camellia sinenis, which thrives by the deep sea creek of the river Fal in Cornwall.

Cornish Orchards Cider

Pressed, blended and bottled nearby in Duloe, Liskeard – Cornish Orchards produce a fine range of internationally awarded delicious ciders and apple juices.

Camel Valley Vineyard

Based near Bodmin, Camel Valley produces well know award winning, world-class wines that are available in shops and restaurants throughout out the country. Take the Grand Tour & Tasting session every Wednesday evening.

Polmassick Vineyard & Bosue Vineyard

These family run vineyards both located in St Ewe, near Mevagissey, produce award winning white, rosé and sparkling wines from Cornish grown grapes.

Haye Farm Cider

Haye Farm Cider is a small family run business which is probably the oldest maker of traditional cider in the world, with cider being produced on the farm since the 13th Century. Using only apples from the farm and nearby orchards Haye Farm have over 40 different types of apple creating high quality cider still made in the very traditional way, pressed through straw, using wild yeasts and wooden barrels.

St Austell Brewery

Experience the interactive museum or take a guided tour around St Austell’s Victorian Brewery and discover the secrets of your best loved brew.


Lots to do, right on your doorstep

There are many attractions in Cornwall – the ever expanding Eden Project, several stunning National Trust houses and gardens Cotehele, Anthony House and Lanhydrock. Walking, fishing, sailing, or simply sitting on the sandy beach at Looe and enjoying the view and coastline. In the summer months you will be amazed how popular ‘crabbing’ is in Looe! but if you do like to explore, here are a few suggestions:

Fishing Boat Hire

There is excellent sea fishing available from Looe, so many choices, take your pick from Shark, Mackerel, Pollack & Conger.. or maybe enjoy sight seeing and pleasure cruises to Polperro, or visit Looe Island Nature Reserve to watch birds, seals and visiting dolphins.

Kayak and Canoe Hire

Described as one of the best kayaking spots in Cornwall, due to its sheltered coastline in the summer – with lots of rock outcrops and cliffs to explore and quite gentle meandering river creaks.

South West Coastal Path & The Looe Valley Line

The Sail Loft Studio sits directly on the South West Coastal Path, explore seaside locations, hidden coves and quiet beaches, the historic fishing port of Polperro and rural hamlets. In September join the walking festival, led by guides, and choose from a gentle option of two miles to the more challenging seven-mile trek. Or try a walk from Looe Valley Railway Line, offering a link to main line services, the eight mile track follows the Looe River, from stream to tidal estuary.

Adrenalin Quarry and Kart World

The clue is in the name! For those of you with a need for excitement Adrenalin Quarry caters for your needs with a huge 40mph zip wire, 150ft giant swing, quarry coasteering right next to the all weather go-karting track. (7 miles/15mins drive)

Siblyback Lake & Bake Lakes

Siblyback Lake is surrounded by Bodmin moor and boasts a wide range of sports to try. Wakeboarding, rowing boat hire, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, trout angling, trout fishing and Segway rides. (12 miles/25mins drive). Bake Lakes provide first class Fly and Coarse Fishing, the 9 lakes and ponds are situated in 30 acres of stunning, peaceful Cornish countryside. (7 miles/13mins drive)

Lower Lake Shooting Ground & Lanhydrock Cycle Hub

Try your hand and improve your skill at Cornwall’s premier clay pigeon shooting school. Lower Lake is set in rural countryside, and has a number of sporting and skeet layouts spread over the shooting ground. (16 miles/30mins drive) Personal Tuition can be organised for beginners on Clay Pigeons, Game Shots and and Have A Go days. Or try out the brand new Cycle Hub with new cafe, cycle hire facility stocking over a hundred bikes and extended parking area in Lanhydrock Park adjacent the NT House & Gardens. The 10km off road exciting trails are graded by difficulty, and are open all year. (17 miles/30mins drive)
